Anahí Tenorio is a sophomore majoring in molecular and cellular biology with a minor in Spanish. Her research interests focus on the intersection of cellular and molecular biology and social determinants of health, particularly how socioeconomic stressors contribute to biological risk and health outcomes. Anahí serves as a volunteer Spanish interpreter at the Avicenna Community Health Center, helping bridge communication between patients and healthcare providers. She also serves as Immigration Project Director for Volunteer Illini Projects, connecting individuals and families to resources and support while promoting awareness of immigration-related challenges. At Mayo Clinic, Anahí will work with Dr. Kim Barbel Johnson to investigate how chronic socioeconomic stressors faced by vulnerable communities translate into biological risk and how health equity intersections with cellular mechanisms can be studied to improve clinical outcomes. Following graduation, she plans to attend medical school and pursue a career as a physician.
